Shanghai Handicrafts Cricket Grasshopper Wicker Box

Shanghai Handicrafts are a traditional Chinese art that became available in American markets starting as trade between the two countries opened in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Each piece is hand-woven from wicker.
Carved wood, stitching, and eyes bring character to these pieces.
High quality examples of Shanghai Handicrafts artisan work are exceedingly rare to find on the open market and some of the pieces that are for sale here are the only examples of their work available. These pieces are hard to date accurately, but are from 1930-1980 based on their tags and styles.

Wicker has grown in popularity as a design trend for the last several years, seeing a revival in popularity as the 2020s begin. It recalls a vintage, bohemian, eco organic, warm atmosphere. Wicker accents bring warmth and depth to any room. Use them to add a cozy feeling to a living space or to warm up an office space.
